True Unity

In order to be a church who truly strives to be United, I think we need to really step back and consider what that really means. Grab your bible for a moment and read Acts chapter 2.

As you read chapter 2 of Acts did you notice that something happened? Something that brought about transformation? It was the, WOW FACTOR, the Holy Spirit made himself known. The bible says, that believers were gathered together in the upper room, ” 1
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” There are some other things that occurred after the filling of the Holy Spirit but I want to look at some verses, Acts 2: 42-47. The people already had a bond and that was a belief in Jesus Christ, but what brought them even closer was the transformation that happened once they were filled with the Spirit. In verses 44-47 it says, 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” They became more unified, more focused on God. They did not do things out of selfishness. It was never a “ME” mentality, it was what is best for the whole. They shared what they had whether it be money, possessions, food. They did it unto God. It was a joy for them to do the things they were doing. Because of their unity and willingness of heart they grew and grew. We can have this here at UIH as well, but we need to be willing.

Ask yourself these three questions below. Are you able to say yes to all three?
  1. Am I open to allowing the holy spirit to fill me?
  2. Am I willing to set aside my selfish ambitions for the sake of other believers?
  3. Am I willing to do it in a way that praises God and brings him the glory?

Prayer:
Father, please help me to put aside my selfish ambitions. Help me to draw near to you so that I can be used to share who you are with others and to be an even better asset to my church family and those around me. May your desires become my desires. May our church become more unified than ever before that we will do things with joy unto you and that you will add to our fellowship each day. In your name, Amen.
